Pre-Prep Performing Arts

Performing Arts in Pre-prep provides every child with the opportunity to build confidence and to experience success in performance.

Music is part of the curriculum from Nursery through to Year 2. All the children have weekly class lessons in the Music Department with our Director of Music and further sessions take place in the classroom with the teachers. Children are given the opportunity to learn the cello in Reception and Year 1, and the violin in Year 2. Pupils can also sign up for one to one peripatetic lessons across the full range of instruments, depending on size and suitability. An Easter Concert gives all the children from Nursery to Year 2 a chance to perform in front of an audience.

Drama forms a very important part of Duke of Kent School's Pre-prep. Opportunities to perform begin with role-play in Nursery and Class Assemblies in Year 1 and 2.  A whole department Christmas production is written especially for the children and showcases their singing, dancing and acting talents.

All the children have a weekly dance lesson. These are an extremely popular part of the week and our specialist dance teacher guides the children towards the Summer Term Dance Show, a particular highlight of the year for many parents and grandparents.  The show sees the children re-tell a well-known story through the narrative of dance. Recent previous titles include: Peter Pan, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Wizard of Oz.

Please visit our Performing Arts in Action page to see what pupils have been up to across all three sections of the school.
