Pupils have been working alongside our 2021 Artists in Residence, The Willow Twisters. This mother-daughter team are accomplished sculptors and craftspeople who work in naturally grown, locally sourced willow. Their sculptures adorn public spaces and galleries across the country and we are honoured to be able to welcome them to Duke of Kent School. The techniques and processes they use date back to a time when this material was considered to have healing properties. Myth and folklore across the world is filled with stories about its magical properties, where it is often associated with spring and rebirth.

The Willow Twisters began their time with us in bright sunshine and ended in torrential rain, an occupational hazard for artists working in this medium! Despite the conditions, the whole School has been involved in creating a herd of dear that will form a permanent fixture at the front of the School. They look amazingly life-like, ready to spring into motion at a moments notice. If the myths about this magical medium are to be believed... perhaps they will!
